New World Embassy: Azawad

New World Embassy: Azawad explores the intersection of art, theory, and activism through the proposition of temporarily instituting an operational Azawadian embassy as an extraterritorial space of representation, negotiation, and international exchange. The project includes an intervention on BAK’s facade and an interior installation, accompanied by contributions from documentary filmmakers Rob Schröder and Gabriëlle Provaas.

Following a preview on 6–7 September, on 9 September 2014 at 19.00 hrs, Moussa Ag Assarid and Jonas Staal are joined for discussion at the inauguration of New World Embassy: Azawad by political scientist Jolle Demmers; politician Jasper van Dijk; independent war journalist Arnold Karskens; artist Mazou Ibrahim Touré; and diplomat Jeroen Zandberg; among others. The debate was moderated by former war correspondent and cultural journalist Raymond van den Boogaard.

Usufructuaries of earth
Chapter one: exhibition

The exhibition foregrounds the artist’s collaborative approach to bringing together ecological, feminist, and decolonial knowledges and practices that put forward ideologies of usufruct, unhinging property-relations from the idiom of individuated possession and toward forms of common userships between humans and other-than-humans.
