Katarzyna Kosmala, Sexing the Border: Gender, Art and New Media in Central and Eastern Europe, 2014

On 23 March 2015, BAK artistic director Maria Hlavajova engages in a conversation with Rael Artel and Katarzyna Kosmala, on the occassion of the publication of the latter’s new edited collection Sexing the Border: Gender, Art and New Media in Central and Eastern Europe.

This conversation takes place in the context of the Curating Europe’s Futures series, “a collaboratively-organised discussion series which explores contemporary curatorial and artistic practices that have critically addressed themselves to the processes of socio-economic restructuring, identity politics, gender dynamics and cultural policies within ‘post-bloc’ Europe.”

Usufructuaries of earth
Chapter one: exhibition

The exhibition foregrounds the artist’s collaborative approach to bringing together ecological, feminist, and decolonial knowledges and practices that put forward ideologies of usufruct, unhinging property-relations from the idiom of individuated possession and toward forms of common userships between humans and other-than-humans.
