Culturele Zondag: Science in the City
On 3 April 2016, BAK hosts a mini-lecture on borders and citizenship, as part of the Cultural Sunday titled Science in the City, and which is organized on the occasion of the 380th anniversary of Utrecht University. In her short talk (presented twice, from 15.00 to 15.15 hrs and from 16.00 to 16.15 hrs) Jolle Demmers connects her expertise and work at Utrecht University to BAK’s discourse and current program.
Dr. Jolle Demmers is Associate Professor and co-founder of the Centre for Conflict Studies at Utrecht University. In this mini lecture she examines questions pertaining to borders and citizenship (e.g. who has “the right to have rights”?), and the role of art in creating a “counter reality.” She addresses these topics within the frame of the exhibition Unstated (or, Living Without Approval), which brings together insights from regions where diverse forms of statelessness appear, from Rojava to Palestine, and from Greece to refugees in limbo in the Netherlands.
