WEEKEND CURRICULUM (FINISSAGE)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Espacio Estamos Bien (Francisca Khamis Giacoman and Mariana Jurado Rico) and surprise.<\/p>\n

THUNDER<\/span><\/span> is a mobile device<\/span><\/span> for music rehearsal and performance<\/span><\/span> that lives between public and private space. It <\/span><\/span>is offered as a structure to be <\/span><\/span>used and claimed by underground musicians from <\/span><\/span>Amsterdam, Utrecht, and their greater areas <\/span><\/span>through open mics, jam sessions<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> and other<\/span><\/span> formats as needed<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span>THUNDER<\/span><\/span> is also a<\/span><\/span> graphic archive<\/span><\/span> in current negotiation. It draws <\/span><\/span>a<\/span><\/span> historical and visual<\/span><\/span> account of <\/span><\/span>two city-based underground<\/span><\/span> music scene<\/span><\/span>s. A massive <\/span><\/span>collection of flyers and <\/span><\/span>and other graphic ephemera that have lived briefly in public space, unearthed from boxes and hard drives of its custodians, <\/span>visibilizes<\/span> the vital work of smaller cultural players who give cities unique character<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> Often, their contribution is overlooked and underfunded, leading to their disappearance and to the benefit of homogenizing cultural commodities more intent on pulling crowds than on nurturing community.<\/span><\/span> THUNDER pays homage to the BAK building\u2019s previous history as a music venue, acknowledging some (certainly not all) of the weight of that sonic legacy.<\/span><\/span> Space for music becomes a flag to welcome <\/span><\/span>other audiences <\/span><\/span>who<\/span><\/span> may not feel represented by the<\/span><\/span> language of contemporary art but <\/span><\/span>might<\/span><\/span> be interested in the themes <\/span><\/span>it <\/span><\/span>circulates.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
