Report (Not Announcement)
Transitionary report on the state of mobility at the beginning of the 21st century
BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, in collaboration with e-flux (electronic flux corporation) and curated by Binna Choi, presents the project Report (Not Announcement) comprised of accounts and documents submitted by 48 cultural producers.
Report (Not Announcement) finds its ground in the state of mobility where artists and curators are circumscribed. Within the very zone of mobility, the cycle of production in art as well as in other fields has become much more efficient and faster than was previously imagined. Consequently artists and intellectuals restlessly travel from one place after another or migrate on their own. Seeking to rethink and relocate their practices within the global context, they often (dis)place themselves in a lacuna between destinations or places, translated as non-places or spaces of transition. These have been the subject of critical and often sceptical attention, and define our contemporaneity as supermodernity. However, the contributors of the project respond to this lacuna in unconventional ways by reporting and reflecting on their own ontological state of leaving and arriving.
E-flux provides Report (Not Announcement) a challenging platform, the terrain “in flux” where artistic activities and locations are connected, revealing our conditions of work, production, and experience. Unlike most e-flux announcements, the reports are written in a varied and free form style, where private and intimate stories appear side by side with travel itineraries, images, and other travel detritus. By this way, Report (Not Announcement) brings an alternative outlook on our contemporary topology through the way that artists and intellectuals deal with it. We recommend that you print out the contributions and read them on your next journey.
The project is financially supported by Art Council Korea.
