WomenSpeak!

BAK, basis voor actuele kunst co-presents WomenSpeak!, a year-long series of monthly debates and presentations on the intricacies of gender issues in an inter-cultural context. WomenSpeak! is co-organized by five Utrecht-based cultural and academic institutions: BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, the Graduate Gender Programme and Centre for the Humanities of Utrecht University, Kosmopolis Utrecht, and TUMULT. The plurality of intellectual, cultural, and artistic practices presented by these institutions are engaged in the topics such as emancipation, radicalization, adoption, pornography, and sexuality in the intersection of different cultures. At the same time, forms of academic and public discourse and language are under examination from gender and intercultural perspectives: for whom, what, and how are “we” speaking in times when the subaltern are produced in the here and now?

WomenSpeak! is co-organized by BAK, the Graduate Gender Programme and Centre for the Humanities of Utrecht University, Kosmopolis Utrecht, and TUMULT.

Usufructuaries of earth
Chapter one: exhibition

The exhibition foregrounds the artist’s collaborative approach to bringing together ecological, feminist, and decolonial knowledges and practices that put forward ideologies of usufruct, unhinging property-relations from the idiom of individuated possession and toward forms of common userships between humans and other-than-humans.
