Tuinborrel: Culture Shock | Laia Escartin & Nikos Avgoustidis
Nikos Avgoustidis, Laia Escartin
On Sunday 4 September (14.30–16.15 hrs) BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Centraal Museum, and De Voorkamer invite you to De Tuinborrel (garden party) with a live musical program, ice cream by Roberto Gelato, and snacks and drinks in the garden of the Centraal Museum. On this afternoon, Greek oudist and lavta player Nikos Avgoustidis merges powers with Mexico born Spanish/Belgian violinist and singer Laia Escartin to create a unique blend of their artistic backgrounds in an exciting semi-improvised performance.
This collaborative event commemorates What is the City But the People? (2018), a work developed with artist Jeremy Deller, where over 120 citizens and collectives of Utrecht participated to create a living monument of the city through its people. The video registration of this collective performance is currently on view in the Centraal Museum exhibition The Healthy City.
The musical performance is part of the Culture Shock program. Culture Shock is home for new cross-cultural musical collaborations, initiated by musician Yanki Bicakci and intercultural connection and creativity space De Voorkamer. Derived from an idea of an artistic and social experiment where musicians from different cultural backgrounds meet each other for the first time and create together, we aim to utilize music as a connecting force among creatives and to bring unique combinations of undiscovered musical influences to a broad range of audiences. Every month, we invite two musicians spend a period of time working together and present their work as an exclusive act. Besides the monthly regular events, we collaborate with various venues and festivals to bring fresh and unique musical happenings to as many people as possible.
Entrance to De Tuinborrel is free, but does not include access to the museum.
