Jumana
Manna
visual artist
Jumana Manna is a visual artist working primarily with film and sculpture. She graduated in aesthetics and politics at CalArts, Los Angeles and at the National Academy of Arts, Oslo. Manna’s practice explores how power is articulated through relationships, thereby often focusing on the body, land, and materiality in relation to colonial inheritances and histories of place. Manna has held numerous solo exhibitions, including: Balade, Villa Oppenheim, Berlin, 2021; Thirty Plumbers in the Belly, M HKA Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp, 2021; Jumana Manna / Uriel Orlow, Tabakalera, San Sebastian, 2019; A Small Big Thing, Henie Onstad Museum, Oslo, 2019; and A magical substance flows into me, Chisenhale Gallery, London, 2015. Upcoming exhibitions include: Matrix Series, Berkley Art Museum, San Francisco, 2021; To Be Like Water, TENT, Rotterdam, 2021; and a participation at the Toronto Biennale, Toronto, 2022. Manna was awarded, among others, the Ars Viva Prize for Visual Arts in 2017 and the A.M. Qattan Foundation’s Young Palestinian Artist Award in 2012. She lives and works in Berlin.
