Allan deSouza is a transmedia artist whose works restage colonial-era material legacies through counter strategies of humor, fabulation, and (mis)translation. His works cross different disciplines, including photography, digital media, text, performance, and pedagogy. DeSouza is a professor of photography at University of California, Berkeley. DeSouza’s work has been exhibited globally at, among others, The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC; The Centre Pompidou, Paris; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju; and Guangzhou Triennial, Guangzhou. His writings have been published in numerous journals, anthologies, and catalogs. Recent publications include Ark of Martyrs: An Autobiography of V (2020); and How Art Can Be Thought: A Handbook for Change (2018). DeSouza lives and works in New York.
