Hoskote
cultural theorist, poet, and curator, Mumbai
Ranjit Hoskote (born 1969) is a poet, cultural theorist, and independent curator. He has published and lectured on contemporary international art, postcolonial and globalization-era cultural politics, transcultural practices, and emergent urban culture. Hoskote was Associate Fellow at SARAI/Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi (2007–2009) and senior editor and art critic for The Hindu (2000−2007). His essays appeared in numerous books and anthologies. Recent collections of poetry include: Vanishing Acts: New and Selected Poems 1985–2005 (2006); Die Ankunft der Vögel (2006); and The Sleepwalker’s Archive(2001). Recent artist monographs include: Zinny & Maidagan: Compartment/Das Abteil (2010) and Praneet Soi: Still, Life (2009). Together with German novelist Ilija Trojanow he authored the critical history of cultural influence Kampfabsage (2007). Recent (co)curatorial projects include: Detour: Five Position Papers on the Republic, Chemould Prescott Road, Bombay, 2009; and the 7th Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju, 2008. Hoskote lives and works in Bombay.
