Tony Cokes is a post-conceptualist artist whose practice foregrounds social critique. He currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Modern Culture and Media at Brown University in Providence, RI. Cokes’ video, installation, and sound works recontextualize appropriated materials to reflect upon our production as subjects under global capitalism. Cokes’ work is shown as part of the exhibition Tony Cokes: To Live as Equals at BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, which originally opened on 28 February 2020, but was on view for only two weeks because of the Covid-19 outbreak. The exhibition reopens on 16 October 2020, on view until 10 January 2021.
