Rehearsing in Public with the BAK Fellows
On Wednesday 12 February 2020, BAK 2019/2020 Fellows Mijke van der drift and Joy Mariama Smith, along with BAK, co-convene a participatory panel. Along with artist Ahmed El Gendy and poet and activist Nat Raha, they rehearse in public experimental and collective practices that they are trying out in their research. The participatory panel aims to create a space in which the panelists and the public collectively catalyze new forms of thought in practice.
The evening begins with a screening of the art film Juntos by El Gendy and Joaquín Wall. The film documents a performance in which the artists were tied closely together for 168 hours. The screening is followed by an interactive panel discussion with those present and van der Drift, El Gendy, Smith, and Raha, in which they discuss ideas, practices, and propositions of consent and the loss of dominant logics so as to imagine new affirmative spaces.
